New Transcriptions and New Lessons coming up!

Hey everybody! A brief update here.

First, I’ve been invited by my friend, Nate Brown of OnlineDrummer.com to do some lessons for his website! I’m going to be getting on that project next week and I recently decided what I’m going to do. A multiple video lesson on building / modifying grooves that ends up with playing an extremely nasty seven based composite meter groove that has MULTIPLE polyrhythmic layers across it. It’s going to be a blast!

Second, I finally got around to making .PDF transcriptions for the entire Time Signature series. For those of you who haven’t checked them out yet, give them a watch, especially the last two videos have some really fun and over the top things in them. I’m surprised that they got drastically less views than some of my other videos. Having been up for a couple months and still each under a thousand. The cool stuff is at the end, I promise! 🙂

Here are the last two, Sixteenth Meters and Composite Meters.

Time Signatures Part 3 of 4 : Sixteenth Note Meters

Time Signatures Part 4 of 4 : Composite Meters + Bonus

Transcription for these two videos : http://www.AaronEdgarDrum.com/pdf/timesigs34.pdf

Transcription for the first two videos : http://www.AaronEdgarDrum.com/pdf/timesigs12.pdf

Keep hittin’ things!

  183. @allmetaliswelcome Well, technically you can perceive them however you want. I mean, based on what you just said, we could perceive 17/16 as (5/16, 1/4, 3/16, 1/8, 3/16). 😛 Or we could just perceive it as a single bar of 17 if we’re going that route anyway.

Honestly, whatever is most comfortable for you (as long as it’s numerically correct) really can’t be argued!

  206. @allmetaliswelcome 17/16 COULD be considered a composite of nearly infinite possibility. Or we could just call it a single bar of 17/16. That to me makes the most sense.

If I was personally to break it up into a composite (musical context dependent of course) but just on it’s own, I’d call it 3/4 and 5/16. Still, to me it makes the most sense to just call it a single bar of seventeen! Hope this helps man! 🙂

  256. @luksha666 Thanks! And yes, I have double pedals, they’re all Demon Drives. I barely used it in this video though 🙂 I think my left foot only played one bass drum note in this vid.

so, do you really only use 16th note meters when your top number isnt divisible by 4?

  467. [..YouTube..] @Ankylophobia Not necessarily. You can have 13/8, 5/4 etc. But it doesn’t make much sense to have a sixteenth meter with the top number being divisible by four. Or even two for that matter.

Think about the time signature as just telling you how many counts a measure receives. In the above mentioned meters there’s thirteen eighth notes in the first. Five quarter notes in the second and so on.

That’s not to say you CAN’T have say, 6/16 or 8/16. It just makes more sense to call it 3/8 or 2/4.
